Canyoneering First Aid Clinic

$35.00

Preparation matters in the backcountry, and having a baseline understanding of wilderness medicine can make a meaningful difference when things don’t go as planned. This canyoneering-focused first aid clinic is designed to provide our local Utah community with an affordable introduction to key concepts, common injuries, and decision-making considerations specific to canyon environments.

This 3-hour educational workshop will blend foundational instruction with interactive learning opportunities to help participants better understand how to recognize problems, provide initial care for basin injuries, and think through next steps in a remote setting. Topics will include environmental concerns such as dehydration, heat illness, and an intro to hypothermia; basic splinting concepts for common injuries; considerations for building a backcountry first aid kit; and guidance around when and how to activate emergency services.

While this clinic is not a substitute for a comprehensive Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course, it serves as a valuable starting point — or refresher — for those looking to strengthen their risk management mindset and better support their partners. We’ll also outline training pathways for anyone interested in pursuing more in-depth, scenario-based education.

Whether you’re newer to canyoneering or simply looking to expand your safety awareness, this clinic offers a supportive, beginner-friendly learning environment where questions are encouraged and no prior medical experience is required.
